Hamburg, 8th August 2013 The Windsurf World Cup Sylt has a new main sponsor. GP JOULE will be associated with this highlight in the watersports calendar this year. The company develops, plans and implements projects all over the world for the future-proof use of renewable energy sources, like solar, wind power and biomass. At the same time, it project manages wind power and solar plants, hence the obvious link to windsurfing. "We generate energy for the daily supply of electricity from the wind and the sun, among other resources. Surfers also use the natural forces of the wind and water to show off their best moves," explains Ove Petersen, Managing Director of GP JOULE.
The close proximity of the event was a further reason for becoming involved with the Windsurf World Cup Sylt. The company's headquarters in the North Frisian town of Reußenköge lie only 60 kilometres from Germany's most northerly island. According to Ove Petersen: "As a North Frisian company, we look forward to supporting a thrilling sporting event, which will bring windsurfers from across the globe to our region."
Ultimately, the intention on the part of the Windsurf World Cup organisers to make the world's largest windsurfing event a sustainable event, also persuaded the GP JOULE management team. "We emphatically welcome this development. It is part of our corporate philosophy to develop smart solutions that conserve resources and are sustainable and which provide real benefits to people," asserts the Managing Director.
This season's highlight in the windsurfing calendar, held from 27th September to 7th October, will celebrate its 30th anniversary as the GP JOULE Windsurf World Cup Sylt. Matthias Neumann, Managing Director of the Hamburg-based agency responsible for organising the event states: "Nature is our driver and motor: you simply can't windsurf without wind and waves. That's why in the past we have always ensured that we organise this event, which attracts hundreds of thousands of people to Brandenburg Beach, in harmony with nature. The business sectors, in which GP JOULE operates, make the new main sponsor a perfect fit with our brand and our philosophy."
The Windsurf World Cup Sylt is the world's largest windsurfing event. 132 competitors from 28 countries competed last year on Brandenburg Beach in riding, freestyle and slalom disciplines for total prize money of 120,000 euros. The Windsurf World Cup Sylt is the only German resort on the PWA World Tour and is the only worldwide event to enjoy Super Grand Slam status.
