Investment in the future: Major donation from GP JOULE for Jugend forscht

Hamburg/Reußenköge, 29th January 2013 - This afternoon GP JOULE GmbH (www.gp-joule.de), which specialises in power plant projects in the areas of solar energy, wind power and biomass as well as in integrated future concepts, donated exactly EUR 62,628 to the Jugend forscht e. V. foundation at its company headquarters in the North Friesian town of Reußenköge. For this purpose, the project developer reserved 25 cents for each of the 250,513 megawatt hours of electricity produced by solar and wind power plants it supported during the last year. The Jugend forscht e. V. foundation will use the money to establish a mobility fund. In future, this fund can be used to make an even greater number of young prize winners “mobile” in the sense of a targeted promotion beyond the scope of the competition and be sent to national and international competitions, prize giving ceremonies, residential study periods or residential practical experience in research.

Jugend forscht is Europe’s biggest schools competition in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (MINT), to which over 11,000 young research talents have sent their entries for 2013. The competition is intended to inspire young people to study natural science and technical topics. And it works: Most of the participants later study one of these subjects.

“Innovative companies rely on talented young people”, says Ove Petersen, co-founder and Managing Director of GP JOULE. “In view of the lack of skilled workers in Germany it is enormously important to us that we promote young researchers in a targeted and effective manner and stimulate interest in the natural sciences.”

“Projects within the topics of renewable energies, environmental technology and climate change represent the main focus of Jugend forscht”, says Dr. Nico Kock, member of the Board of Directors of the Jugend forscht e. V. foundation. “GP JOULE GmbHs generous support will help us to promote even more talented young people who will take responsibility for research and our society and so make their contribution to sustainable development.”
