Working towards the real energy turnaround together

Reußenköge/Grünwald, 12 January 2022
Investing into a sustainable future: The independent investment and asset manager KGAL is acquiring a stake in GP JOULE Projects as a strategic investor. The growth of GP JOULE Projects in Germany and Europe is to be driven forward together.

GP JOULE Projects is part of the GP JOULE Group and develops wind and solar energy projects along the full value chain: From securing the land and tendering the subcontractor construction services to the overall business concept for the operation of the completed plant. GP JOULE Projects has many years of expertise in greenfield development: Since 2009, GP JOULE has already developed more than 20 wind farms and 130 solar parks with a total output of more than 1,000 megawatts.

KGAL Investment Management GmbH & Co. KG is a leading independent investment and asset manager with a managed investment volume of more than 15 billion euros. With its renewable energy funds, KGAL plays a pioneering role in the field of sustainable investment. Through the KGAL ESPF 4 and KGAL ESPF 5 funds, KGAL holds an interest in GP JOULE Projects Holding as well as in GP JOULE Projects GmbH & Co. KG.

Since 2003, KGAL has already invested in more than 140 renewable energy plants in ten European countries with a total output of more than 1.5 gigawatts. This for example includes Helligbek and Lüngholm wind farms planned by GP JOULE in Schleswig-Holstein.

"When we acquired these wind farms, we were impressed by the company's professionalism and the attractiveness of its projects," explains Michael Ebner, Managing Director of Sustainable Infrastructure at KGAL Investment Management. "Investing in GP JOULE Projects means we are now able to enter greenfield development with a comprehensive portfolio. Our KGAL ESPF 4 and KGAL ESPF 5 funds will therefore have even better opportunities for diversification and the potential to further enhance returns."

"Accelerate growth"

KGAL's substantial investment in GP JOULE Projects will now deepen the existing partnership and bundle the expertise and experience of both companies.

"KGAL is already active in ten European countries meaning it is excellently networked. With KGAL by our side, GP JOULE Projects can further accelerate its growth," says Ove Petersen, co-founder and CEO of GP JOULE: "KGAL offers access to new markets in Europe and with its consistently focus on sustainability, it is a perfect fit for GP JOULE."

With this step, the GP JOULE Group underlines its strategy advance into a leading integrated European full solution provider and energy supplier for renewable energies in the areas of electricity, heat and mobility. The aim always being to create the real energy turnaround and producing 100 percent of energy consumption from renewable sources in the future.
