Reußenköge – During his official inaugural visit to Schleswig-Holstein, Federal President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Minister President Daniel Günther visited the company headquarters of GP JOULE in Reußenköge. It is the only company that the Federal President will be visiting during his inaugural trip. In his inaugural speech in the middle of March 2017, the Federal President had announced that he wished to visit Places of Democracy on his voyage through the German states.
This morning GP JOULE managing directors Ove Petersen, Heinrich Gärtner and André Hirsch showed the high-ranking guests that renewable energies and democracy belong together at the company headquarters in Reußenköge. Among other things, the delegation visited the first megawatt-class power-to-gas plant developed and installed in Schleswig-Holstein, where renewable power is converted into hydrogen. Hydrogen from renewable energies is the link for a cross-sector energy turnaround. It is a CO2 free source of energy which can be flexibly utilised for the sectors mobility, heat and industry. The local population participates in this directly. The green power required for this comes mainly from wind power plants which are also operated by citizens and local communities. Without the acceptance of the population for building renewable energy plants, it is not possible to transition to a sustainable energy supply.
In this context Daniel Günther, Minister President of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, emphasised: “As a state located between the seas, Schleswig-Holstein generates and uses renewable energies heavily. Intelligent concepts for using these renewable energies are proof of the innovative power and the outstanding expertise of the companies in our state.”
GP JOULE is looking to implement an innovative hydrogen mobility project in conjunction with other partners in order to be able to operate public transport buses using renewable regional wind power. GP JOULE turns the value created by renewables into tangible reality by offering climate-friendly public transport opportunities. Ove Petersen, founder and managing director of GP JOULE GmbH emphasises how essential it is to bring the local population on board for the energy turnaround to succeed.
“Acceptance, involvement and local value creation are the cornerstones of sustainable energy supply and the basis for the next phase of the energy turnaround. In this phase the power generation turnaround must be turned into a real energy turnaround in all sectors – together with the local population. At GP JOULE we develop and “live” the energy turnaround thereby effectively protecting the climate.”
