Green energy for the Holy Ground
GP JOULE is at Wacken Open Air, supplying clean energy for the festival
Reußenköge/Wacken, 30 July 2024
Green Energy Rocks: GP JOULE is once again at this year's Wacken Open Air, one of the biggest metal festivals in the world and revered by many fans as the ‘Holy Ground’. The integrated energy supplier from North Frisia is supplying the festival's bandstand with electricity from green hydrogen as part of a sponsorship programme. GP JOULE is also building a small self-sufficient solar system on the festival site.
The solar system in the form of four stand-alone solar cubes shows how renewable energy sources can be used anywhere. The small power stations have already been used at several festivals and events, where they produced green electricity on site.
The electricity for the bandstand comes from a fuel cell in which green hydrogen is converted into electricity. GP JOULE obtains the hydrogen from eFarm, the largest green hydrogen mobility project in Germany initiated by GP JOULE, which is already supplying cars and local buses in North Frisia with the sustainable fuel.
At Wacken Open Air, the hydrogen will be converted into electricity in an H₂Genset, an emission-free, flexible and mobile power generator with a hydrogen fuel cell. The H₂Genset is designed for use in areas without access to the conventional power grid. To this end, GP JOULE is cooperating with SFC Energy AG, a leading provider of hydrogen and methanol fuel cells for stationary, portable and mobile hybrid power supply solutions.
‘At Wacken Open Air, we are demonstrating on a small scale what we are realising elsewhere in large-scale energy projects: green energy from the region, for the region,’ says Ove Petersen, co-founder and CEO of GP JOULE: Because if we give people a better understanding of where their electricity is produced, what is already possible with new technologies and what tangible benefits they can experience, we will not only create acceptance, but also enthusiasm for the energy transition.’
