GP JOULE receives the wom.e.n Energy Award 2023

Essen/ Reußenköge, 25 May 2023

At GP JOULE, the approach of looking at a system holistically not only relates to the energy turnaround, but also to the entire company philosophy. For the energy turnaround company, it is important that private life - with all its different life models - and everyday professional life can work well for every employee. For its gender equality initiative, the women's network wom.e.n. awarded a prize. WOMEN.ENERGY.NETWORK e.V. presented the first wom.e.n. award to the GP JOULE HEAT business division yesterday at the E-World trade fair in Essen. Energy Award 2023. The award honours projects that include, for example, special working time models, equal pay initiatives, recruiting approaches, mentoring programmes or similar.

"Equality is company culture at GP JOULE. It therefore fills me with pride,

to receive the wom.e.n. EnergyAward on our behalf today," says Irina Neuhaus, Head of Organisation & Business Development at GP JOULE HEAT. "We have made it our mission to achieve gender balance in all departments. To accomplish this, we have taken some courageous steps - from home office for everyone to part-time work for managers as well.”

For GP JOULE, diversity starts with the job advertisements, which are written in a feature-neutral and discrimination-sensitive way. Dates are deliberately set so that part-time staff can also attend. Salaries are not a matter of negotiating skills, but are openly communicated and proactively adjusted. Statistics on the most important parameters of equality are collected every six months and discussed in the committee; a qualitative assessment takes place annually. It is important to the company to also enable male employees to reconcile work and family life. This is the only way to ensure equality in different life models and to counteract a double burden.

The network wom.e.n. WOMEN.ENERGY.NETWORK e.V. campaigns for equal rights and the empowerment of women in the energy industry. A six-member jury consisting of representatives from science, the energy industry and politics, as well as associations, chose the GP JOULE WÄRME initiative from among the applications. "I am very pleased that the jury at the first wom.e.n Energy Awards was able to nominate a company for the award that promotes a corporate culture in which equal cooperation between people from different backgrounds is not only valued, but also implemented structurally through numerous measures. This convinced us as a jury," explains Prof. Dr. Carmen Leicht-Scholte from RWTH Aachen University, Institute for Gender and Diversity in Engineering.
