GP JOULE honoured at Zukunftstag Mittelstand

In recognition of how it has been leading the way with pioneering spirit, the German Association for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (BVMW e. V.) put GP JOULE in first place at the Zukunftspreis Mittelstand awards for forward-looking SMEs. At the presentation ceremony held during the day-long Zukunftstag Mittelstand event in Berlin, the panel reserved particular praise for the company’s promotion of innovation and sustainability. The eFarm project saw GP JOULE HYDROGEN construct an entire zero-carbon hydrogen ecosystem, from the production of green hydrogen through to hydrogen filling stations and hydrogen-powered buses providing local public transport.

Local citizens’ wind farms supply the electricity, which is converted into green hydrogen at a total of four electrolysis facilities, with the process heat generated fed straight into the nearby district heating network. Following electrolysis, the hydrogen makes its way in mobile storage containers to the two specially constructed filling stations in Husum and Niebüll, ready to be put into fuel cell buses, HGVs and cars.

“Power-to-X projects such as the eFarm, where electricity is converted into hydrogen or heat, are safeguarding and accelerating the expansion of renewable energy sources, because they’re capable of storing large volumes of climate-friendly energy temporarily when there’s lots of wind and sunshine and distributing them to other sectors,” says Ove Petersen, Co-Founder and CEO of the GP JOULE Group. “This increases local value creation and improves energy security – and in a sustainable and affordable way as well.”

“A supply of green energy that’s anchored in the region lays the foundations for growing the economy and enabling society to participate in the energy transition,” adds André Steinau, Managing Director of eFarming GmbH & Co. KG and of GP JOULE HYDROGEN, GP JOULE’s business unit for sustainable hydrogen solutions. “With eFarm, we’re showcasing how we’re ensuring a safe and secure supply, clean transport, stable prices, and local value creation and jobs through 100% renewable energy.”

Across Germany, GP JOULE is currently working with regional partners on other mobility projects powered by green hydrogen that follow the eFarm Nordfriesland model, including HY.City.Bremerhaven, hy.kiel and hy.waiblingen.
